Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra ready for Celebration of Music Education

Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra is all set offer the Celebration of Music Education at the Kleinhans Music Hall tonight. A reception as well as an awards ceremony open to music educators, honorees, supporters of music education and administrators, will take place at 6:30 pm. At the start of 8 pm gig, the honorees would be recognized before BPO audience.

Harter Secrest & Emery LLP would get the BPO's Leadership in Music Education Award. Buffalo law firm has underwritten BPO's West Side Connection event for the last 2 years, bringing BPO music artists into the schools on west side as well as finishing in an event that was broadcast to thousands and thousands of students in all 8 counties of the Western New York.

Well, 3 educators were chosen to get the BPO as well as Erie County Music Educators' Association honor for excellence in music teaching: the Iroquois Central School Districts John Iocco; Donna Kerr of the Buffalo Public Schools; as well as Depew Union Free School District Diane Sullivan.

Iocco took classes at the Iroquois Central High School for fifteen years, working as the director of the wind symphony, jazz ensemble, marching band and symphonic band. He is the affiliate director of Erie County Wind Ensemble, and has worked as a guest director for different all-county as well as area all-state honor bands.

He is a member of the New York State Band Director's Association, Erie County Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education, the Buffalo Musicians' Association and New York State School Music Association.
